Social Distancing Tips for Public Hiking Trails

With the current Covid-19 scenario, we are sure you are itching to get back out hiking again or maybe you are already doing so in your area. Before we get started, we want to make it clear that you must abide by the rules of your country and ensure you are following all guidelines of your particular area. Whether you are itching to get back hiking or are already allowed out, it’s important you remain safe. We want to share with you a few tips to follow social distancing rules on your hikes.

Firstly, make sure you choose your trail carefully. It’s important to ensure you stick to trails with a width of at least two meters. This will allow you to move out of the way of any other hikers rather than having to squeeze yourself in a bush to keep your distance. This is essential because trails which are narrower will not allow you to keep your distance which is essential with the current circumstances.

Also, to avoid any interaction with others, plan the time of your trail sensibly. Make sure to choose a time which you know is quiet to minimise your chances of crossing paths with people. This also means that you should stick to trails you know which will allow you to choose the perfect time as you will be familiar with the area.

Ever hiked in low light? It’s not very fun right? Now with the additional thought of trying to keep away from others, it can be far harder when your visibility is restricted. Ensure you hike in full light to allow you to see when others are coming, allowing you to keep your distance and be aware.

Make sure you don’t stop on the trails, keep a consistent speed and don’t stop for breaks! This will reduce blockages on the trails and will minimise the risk of you getting too close to someone!

Finally, stay aware at all times. It’s important to stay alert on your hikes and make sure you don’t forget to abide by the rules of your country! Don’t forget that you must remain social distancing and be sensible with your hiking!

That's all from us for now, enjoy your hikes but most importantly… STAY SAFE!
